These images are all from our lighting study at Hialeah Park Casino. We had been focusing on a creating a strong lighting event above the casino's center bar - something like a chandelier or cloud that would incorporate the colorful beauty and fluidity of Hialeah's flamingo population. Eventually we found an artist in Athens, Greece - Alexandra Tsoukalas who helped us realize our vision. Using stretched fabric over steel wire frames she was able to capture the movement and energy of birds in flight. The actual illumination was provided by color changing remote spotlights.
The Center Bar also featured an internally lit glass flamingo sculpture, and an entry chamber filled with fabric flowers - also by Alexandra Tsoukalas using a technology similar to that used on the flamingos.
